Mission Statement
Queer culture is under-represented and largely confined to academia and DIY activism. Queer refers to people who are perhaps L, G, B or T but do not conform to common stereotypes of what these things are, and to many people with non-normative gender identities who don't fit any of these.
It can be described as: a category of sexuality a refusal to be branded as gay or lesbian a rejection of the man/woman gender binary an umbrella for people of all sexualities and genders an opportunity for us all to unite against oppression that affects us all a criticism of the pink pound a return to community rather than corporations.
The Queer Web Project aims to communicate and raise awareness by: creating a friendly, welcoming community enabling communication and information sharing across a global community of queers building bridges between disparate queer communities incorporating a number of unsatisfactory, unrelated web technologies the queer community currently uses in the absence of something specifically for us providing good information as to what queer means for different people to individuals, media, organisations and governments creating a safe, non-commercial online space, by queers for queers.
We will create a bespoke site using the latest web technology combining (amongst other things) social networking, multimedia hosting, email and blog hosting as well as facilities for small groups to set up their own web presence painlessly and easily.
The sky's the limit - we welcome all kinds of ideas and feedback, criticism and support. We welcome able programmers into the development group, and savvy content editors to keep us up to date and relevant.
