Lordrich is tracking down queer.net and queer.org. No progress as of yet.
Top 3 voting
- Feel free to add others here. I felt these were the only serious contenders.

- Telephone: telephone test. How easy is this to tell someone over a bad phone line?
- Jargon: how much is this jargon/anglocentric slang?
- "Neurality": how much does the name have the widest possible set of meanings?
- .net: I feel .net is the preferred TLD.
- Note total column isn't meant to be the deciding factor - just a rough idea.
Other Suggestions
- isqueer.net/org would be nice for emails. kim@isqueer.net?
- I quite like this, and think it would work for subdomains too - but it doesn't work on it's own or for lists. Lordrich
- I'm not sure about this one but will go along if that's what everyone else wants. Sylvia
- thirdgender.org 3rdgender.net/.org
- thirdsex.net/.org 3rdsex.org
- Despite the fact we're doing more than gender, I like these. Kim
- I think that these are too specific for what the website is doing. Sylvia
- nodefinition.net nodef.net
- I quite like nodef.net, and have been trying to think of error codes for 'undefined' which we could use. This is my third favourite Lordrich
- I really like this and it's in my top three as well. Sylvia
- hermstory.* :p
- zirstory.*
- qu33r.com, qu33r.info
- Simple, not obviously queer at first glance and easy to remember. Only problem is it doesn't really hold up to telling verbally too well, and is effectively 1337 speak. Still looks nice. Kim.
- I think we should avoid anything which doesn't work verbally, especially 1337 speak. Lordrich
- I'd second Lordrich on that; it's very hard to say on the phone/describe it to people who might not be familiar with 1337. Sylvia
- queerportal.org
- I think this works quite well for a news site, which is perhaps more what faaq would want - or we could use for aggregated content. Lordrich
- queerhost.org
- I like this one for the groupware. But maybe not so good for the rest of the site. Does this matter though? Kim
- queerjournal.org
- queerchannel.org /queerchan.*
- These are nice put possibly the former is a bit long, and the latter too geeky an abbreviation. Kim
- ninebob.* as in 'queer as a nine bob note'
- I think this is too regional/colloquial. Kim.
- I think it's too regional, too; I'm not sure what it means, exactly. Sylvia
- I quite like this one actually, it's my favourite so far. Lordrich.
- queerunited.*
- queerfolk.net / .org
- I rather like queerfolk.org; it works well for everything we want, it's easy on the eye and can be verbally communicated. This is currently my second favourite. LordRich?
- I like this one too but feel it's about 3 characters too long. Kim.
- I like this one, too, although it does remind me of "Queer as Folk." In my top three, though. Sylvia
- queerlove.org / qlove.org
- I like qlove! Short and "what does it stand for?" "Queer love" "Awwww" Kim.
- I like it, too, but it might give the impression that it's all about love/sex and fluffy stuff? Sylvia
- queerd.net / queerd.org. Was the name of a queer mutiny event in Leeds, but also nice and succinct. Ostensibly short for queer diy. Speaking of which:
- I think this is my new fav. 6 chars, short and sweet. Kim
- I don't really like this one, partly because I didn't get it without an explanation. Sylvia
- queerdiy.*
- nonstraight.org/.net
- I reckon that this one is a bit too negative, as in, it emphasises what the project is not, rather than what it is. Also, some people may want to identify as straight but be queer at the same time? Sylvia
- gendertrinary.*
- postgender.net/.org
- This seems very academic and probably won't make sense to people outside Queer Theory/Activist circles. Sylvia
- q-vox.* / qvox.org
- This is my new favourite. Lordrich
- I really like this too. What it lacks in lucidity it definitely makes up for with succinctness. Kim
- Yes, my favourite as well. Sylvia
We should create a labs.riseup.net poll for the alternatives if we don't hear from queer.* soon.
- What is this?
- It's an online poll system which, unlike most online voting systems, is almost consensus-based.
