Terms Of Service

Normally this would be full of legal jargon, but we don't have a lawyer (offers welcome, however) and would prefer just to say what we mean.

The Queer Web Project was started out of a lack of good, fully featured web sites for queers to use. It is designed to be a safe space for all queers and queer identified projects. We define queer space as a place:

  • For people of all genders,
  • For people of all sexualities,
  • For people of all sexes,
  • For people who pursue all kinds of relationship arrangements,
  • Where peoples difference is respected; please don't assume other peoples' gender, sexuality, what types of relationship they're in, what's in their pants or what they like in bed. If in doubt, ask - but please respect other people's limits.

We place no limits on what kinds of groups you start and content you can upload. The Queer Web Project is both for queer projects and for projects by queers: so as long as you're happy having your site hosted on a queer domain name, then it's probably fine by us!

If you are uncomfortable with people expressing their personal identity in explicit ways then this is possibly not the place for you.

This is not a place for:

* Any prejudice based on race, sex, gender, sexuality (including heterosexuality), able-bodidness, age, and class.

However, we are fully aware that these are not things we can simply wish away, being far reaching and often subtle concepts. We ask whites, men, able bodied people and people in other privileged demographics to listen to people who don't have those privilages. [This project] aims to end discrimination in the broadest sense: and this includes discussion of privilege wherever it rears it's head. We urge all site users to call other people on their discrimination, and for people to be open-minded, realize we all have a way to go, and to listen.

In short, please be respectful and open-minded to other people's points of view, avoid speaking for others and be aware of your own position. Controversial points of view, theories and opinions are fine: but please constrain them to yourself, and speak in the first person when expressing personal opinion. Doubtless we will disagree, often violently, but enabling these discussions to happen in an open, frank, personal and accountable way can only be positive for the movement.

In the long term, we aim to set up a site feedback system and board of moderators to aid in any dispute, and welcome inquiries in this role. Wherever possible though, we seek to enable dialogue rather than censor.

On a legal note, the site is also not for:

  • Any copyrighted material. You are free to upload your own media, but please don't upload anything copyrighted by someone else.
  • Libel. Please don't say things about other people that you can't back up with a reference.
  • Porn. This is something we wish to allow one day, however at the moment we don't know enough about the law to do this properly.

If you see either of these on the site, please use the 'Report Content' link and we will take it down as soon we we are able.

In the name of full disclosure, a brief biography of the site admins and what queer means to them is here (link).

Finally, this document is evolving, and welcomes input!
